TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I embrace the philosophy of modeling my expectations for my students. Because I build a culture of community in my classroom, I share with my students that I will never ask them to do something that I have not done or will not do with them. As a result, I provide self-created written outlines and speech delivery video examples for my students to emulate. Also, I give my students an opportunity to assess me as I deliver my speeches, which pre-exposes them to the same grading rubric that I will also use to assess their speeches.
For my online course development, I believe that technologies should work seamlessly into an existing curriculum. Using trendy technologies—simply because they are the latest fad—often serve as a distraction to learners and/or end users. Also, I believe that training educators on how to effectively incorporate technology tools into their classrooms can lead to student comprehension and achievement.
Further, I believe that creative classroom practices lead to better comprehension and skill retention. As students become engrossed in assignments that require hands-on practices, they can better recall the skill introduced. Although some traditional teaching practices are useful, current teachers must also creatively involve their students in the learning process. Specifically, reading is typically deemed as a mundane task; however, student can actively become involved in the process as teachers incorporate imagination, various learning styles, sensory, personal connection, and art skills in the assignments.
