Future Teaching Goals/ Plans for Teaching
Development
A. The top three technologies for my field are blogs, online summer school, and podcasts. These three emerging technologies will address the 21st century learner. Many classrooms are incorporating blogs for journal entries and student comprehension purposes. Also, many teachers are beginning to create podcasts for their students to utilize at home for further instruction. This tool will also enable parents to assist students with homework assignments as well. Last, online summer school became popular in recent years and is especially used to assist students with completing credits to earn their high school diploma.
B. Of the aforementioned three technologies, I would like to explore podcasts. I think the idea of students being able to pause, repeat, and access the instruction at their own pace is remarkable. In the absence of their teacher, if students need to review a concept or complete a homework assignment, it makes perfect sense for students to have access to that said concept via a podcast.
C. In order to implement this instruction in my college public speaking classroom, I plan to create a podcast for each graded speech. Students will be able to review the grading rubric via the podcast to ensure that they are addressing each graded category as they complete their speech assignment. With my grading rubrics already created, in my next two weeks off, I plan to create podcasts to correspond to those grading rubrics.
D. As technology changes, my plan is to add an educational technology endorsement to my current professional teaching certificate. Taking technology courses will definitely keep me current in the field. Also, as I implement these technologies within my course syllabus, then I will be addressing them regularly (weekly & monthly). As my teaching semesters end, I will reflect on what technologies worked the best and which new ones, I would like to incorporate into my classroom instruction. Annually, I plan to enroll in technology courses, which will keep me current with the newly introduced ones. Also, I usually present annually at statewide conferences so I will continue in this arena, which will also keep me current in the field as well.
