1. blue-jeaned sitter
2. kitchenette
3. roomers
4. presentable
5. devilish
6. barren
Multi-modal assignment:
Directions: After reading Thank You M’am in its entirety, include an image or a symbol that reflects the story AND a written response as to why you chose that image. Please make sure that your written response is free of misspellings and grammar errors.
Please be creative with this assignment. Your image can be a: comic, video, hand drawn, magazine clip, or camera-generated. If you create an electronic video (https://animoto.com), please be sure to post your URL on our class site. Be sure to include your written response as well.

In the short story, the word, "Spanish" is replaced with brunettes. Please see below:
"The woman did not ask the boy anything about where he lived, or his folks, or anything else that would embarrass him. Instead, as they ate, she told him about her job in a hotel beauty-shop that stayed open late, what the work was like, and how all kinds of women came in and out, blondes, red-heads, and Spanish. Then she cut him a half of her ten-cent cake."
From a parallel structure, brunettes work better. However, why do you believe that Spanish was replaced with brunettes? Please consider that the short story was written in 1933 and perhaps published in 1958. From a racial injustice perspective, who do you believe was more likely to change the word, the author or publisher? Please choose only one person who you believe is responsible for the word change and write a short answer to support your position--at least a paragraph written response is expected.
